You are about to get a taste of the unique and successful diversity training strategies of a master trainer. Dr. Billy Vaughn is a professor, cultural diversity tool developer, and consultant since 1984.

With national recognition, a successful consulting practice, and a doctorate degree in cultural psychology, he is sought after by organizations for training and trainers to serve as their personal coach.

You may not know it, but few resources exist for learning how to be a diversity trainer. A few weekend and weeklong courses exist, but the training is often put together haphazardly, provided by people with poor training, and the training often requires travel and tuition costs.

You may acquire some knowledge from the the training, but few trainers give you an opportunity to practice skills under the instructor's expert guidance. You are on your own once you leave the training. In fact, many diversity trainers will not tell you their marketing secrets for fear that you may end up competing with them.

Very few training programs offer you information about how to market yourself. The competition is stiff. Those who get the big jobs in companies, such as Texaco, Denny's, and Home Depot, generally have connections or a presence in the marketplace. Few trainers have either high level contacts or marketing skills. The ideal training will provide marketing skills that build connections and promote presence while taking your unique style into consideration.

I am sure you are wondering why Billy Vaughn will reveal his secrets of being a successful trainer, if others are reluctant to do it. Well, frankly, it is because he knows that there is plenty of work for everyone in the diversity training profession AND he wants to make certain that those doing the training have the expertise.

You see Billy believes that most diversity trainers are poorly trained and do poor training as a result. The harm they cause gives the profession a bad reputation and make the experts' work harder. Clients deserve trainers who will make their experience rewarding.

Consider the following excerpt from an email sent to DTUI by a web surfer in response to reading the mission statement on the DTUI homepage:

"Personally I believe that the mission should be unity not diversity. I have close friends that are of different gender and ethnic backgrounds and I don't look at them as different. I have been to diversity training 4 times with 3 companies. I would like to think that after you have been once you can be a certified attendee and have a certificate. I have spent a lot of time in these classes and I don't feel I need to go again. The last one I was in was instructed by a person whose diversity identification made them attack Christians. They openly put down others that didn't hold their beliefs. You could literally see the group become mean and attack. That is why I think in business we need to focus on the product and customer and knock off the social engineering. It seems the people that teach tolerance are themselves intolerant. Just a thought."

The more rewarding diversity training is to those who use and need it, the more they will learn from the experience and refer the services to others. Since professionals often rely on each other for referrals, the professional diversity trainer will benefit from good press. The better the press, the more work,. . . the better the pay,. . . .the more satisfying the work is for everyone involved.

Whether you desire to become a diversity trainer, you are an experienced trainer, or you want to be a diversity resource person in your organization, you need the information our site provides.

The DTUI training experience basically covers three aspects of diversity training: awareness, knowledge, and skills. These results in everything from state of the art diversity training tools, developing workshops with a personal touch, managing group dynamics, consulting to management, to pricing your services.

It doesn't matter if you have never conducted a who will make their experience training, you need more experience, or you are a seasoned trainer, the information here is more than you can imagine getting.

You'll save time and money, avoid the mistakes most trainers have made, learn to manage what turns into disastrous group dynamics for most, and learn secrets many wish they knew. Here are a few things covered that will put confidence in your heart, blossom your business, and put money in your pocket soon.

SECRETS OF BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL DIVERSITY TRAINER
by Billy Vaughn, DTUI President

It is estimated that the majority of diversity trainers do not receive compensation at their deserved rate. I see it this way. Most trainers do not have adequate training. It is hard to make a living if you do not know what is needed to look like a professional. Your profit depends on your expertise.

Trained organizational development specialists receive top dollar for their services. Diversity training is a special area of organizational development. This means diversity trainers should receive as much as $5000 to $7500 per day, $1500 to $4500 per half day, or $125-$180 per hour. Anyone making less than these prices is underpaid. Here is a sample of the secrets you'll learn by training with us at DTUI:

What you need to do to sell your diversity ideas

Avoiding the pitfalls of diversity training

How to identify training needs and objectives

How to identify training strategies and activities

How to market your consulting or training practice

How to price your services

How to make top dollar for your diversity expertise

Three things you must know to make a living as a diversity trainer

Knowing what diversity training jobs to turn down

Discover how to decide which diversity tools to use given the situation

The hidden truth about why diversity trainers are underpaid.

INCREASE YOUR INCOME ABOVE OTHER DIVERSITY TRAINERS BY 67%

After you are done with our training program, your diversity training expertise and marketing skills will net you more money than most competitors only dream about. Here is a sample of the secrets you learn:

How much to charge for different training and consulting.

Whether to charge hourly, daily, by the half day, or otherwise.

How to provide value-added service at little cost to you

How to successfully bid a job even though you charge more

How to maintain a long-lasting working relationship with a client

YOU CAN SAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WHILE BECOMING
A HIGH-PRICED DIVERSITY TRAINER

Most diversity trainers learned their trade by taking a course or two here, a workshop there, and listening to audiotapes. Traveling to conferences and workshops is expensive alone. Someone living in Chicago may pay more than $400 to travel to a conference in Los Angeles. Adding hotel costs, meals, ground transportation AND THE COST OF THE TRAINING can make for an expensive education.

Tuition can cost anywhere between $175 and $1700. Also consider the fact that most conferences where relevant courses are offered are not directly focusing on training diversity trainers. This means many, if not most, of the seminars and workshops offered do not pertain your training needs. The result is that you will travel to several conferences and workshops over several years to accumulate what you need to feel like an expert.

Some weekend programs provide intensive and broad-based knowledge, but do not offer the supervised practice to perfect the skills. Here is a sample of the ease of learning at DTUI:

Each course is about 4-6 weeks long

A on-line manual for each course

You will work alone and in small teams (at a distance) on homework problems

You don't have to travel

You complete all course work quickly

You can begin supervised diversity training almost right away

You can receive clients through the DTUI referral service (free to trainees)

Much more is offered that is described below. What you have just read is only a small sample of the exciting information you will get when you join Diversity Training U. You need the kind of straightforward expert knowledge and skills the program offers.

If you truly want to put thousands of dollars directly into your pocket every year, as fast as possible, then the information we offer is CRUCIAL. The most exciting part is that you can get all this information at no risk to you (This is explained later).

If you are serious about diversity training, you cannot afford to miss out on DTUI's training program.

Here are some of the things you get:

  1. Classes via an on-line, web-based site. You can enter the classroom from wherever you are (Home, office, mobilephone, travel, etc.). All you need is access to the web.
  2. You Become a Diversity Trainer Right Away. We believe that the best way to learn is on the job. DTUI trainees receive coaching to assist them in targeting and securing diversity training opportunities as quickly as possible. This is also intended to help trainees offset the cost of their education.
  1. Most diversity trainers underestimate their value. Diversity trainers can request payments similar to organizational development specialists which can range from $1000 to $5000 per day. OR YOU CAN BECOME A VALUABLE DIVERSITY RESOURCE PERSON AT YOUR JOB. THIS CAN GET YOU RAISES AND PROMOTIONS BEYOND YOUR PRESENT CAPABILITIES.

Let us coach you on how to get similar rates. We normally charge a fee for this service to diversity trainers, but YOU RECEIVE IT FOR FREE as a trainee.

Trainees in close proximity to locations where DTUI is contracted have an opportunity to receive paid experience for their assistance. Others are referred through contacts we receive through the DTUI trainer referral service which you are included FREE with your tuition. This shows DTUI's commitment to getting work for its trainees.

  2. Free Diversity Training Referral Listing. Your name and diversity training information will appear in the DTUI Diversity Training Referral Listing. This is a free service to those seeking diversity training experts. It is $250.00 a year value.
  3. Marketing skills. Can you imagine having excellent training skills, but lose out to less worthy competitors with better marketing packages? Most diversity trainer programs fall short of providing you with marketing knowledge and skills. We believe marketing is one of the most important parts of the training. DTUI graduates are well-rounded. This includes an ability to market oneself.
  4. Join a Diversity Trainer Community. Networking is one of the best ways to get opportunities. DTUI trainees are a community of learners dedicated to competent diversity training assisting each other. Members combine their expertise and resources to offer clients top quality training and consulting. Joining our community is the key to success.

You get much, much, more!

  1. Classes via the web-based Blackboard Classroom site. All you need is a computer, printer, email account, and access to the world wide web.
  2. Adult-learner format. Classes range from 4-6 weeks in duration, so you can complete courses quickly which means you earn your credentials quickly.
  3. You have 7/24 access to the web-based classroom so you can attend anytime it suits you, enter your assignment information, and get feedback from classmates at your convenience.
  4. Courses are small. We will keep each course to 10 people or fewer whenever possible, but no more than 12.

Training Programs Overview

The HRSC program is designed for human resource and other employees who are responsible for carrying out the diversity goals of their organization or aspire to do so.

The EEO Officer, Diversity Staff Specialist, or Human Resource person will benefit from these courses and the certificate. Courses include the following:

Culture & Organizational Behavior (6 weeks)
This course provides information about the challenges of diversity. It is based on the assumption that we are programmed by culture & western society socializes us to believe that our own culture is better than others. Ways to overcome these learned behaviors are stressed.

This course focuses on the complexity of communicating across cultures. It offers strategies for overcoming intercultural communication challenges.

The DTC program is designed for the individual who seeks to learn the basics of diversity training in order to become a trainer or consultant. This program offers nine (9) courses needed to understand and apply the basics of diversity training. At the end of the courses, the individual receives a certificate of completion.
The following courses apply:

The Master's in Culture and Organizational Behavior (COB) program is for those individuals serious about becoming a diversity trainer. This person wants a credential that specifies expertise in diversity training and consulting.

In addition to the nine courses taken in the DTC program, the COB program requires 6 more. In addition, the individual needs to develop a unique instructional technology, such as a workshop, under supervision of two DTUI faculty members. Once, the courses are completed and the technology is complete, the person must satisfactorily complete 3 diversity trainings (under DTUI faculty supervision). At this point, all requirements are satisfied and the individual receives a diploma indicating that s/he is a certified DTUI trained diversity expert.

The additional courses include:
Training Systems Design (6 weeks)
Training Systems Development (6 weeks)
Diversity Consulting (5 weeks)
Diversity Coaching (5 weeks)
Developing a Practice (4 weeks)
Diversity Project (9 weeks)

The COB program is for the serious diversity trainer who wants to take advantage of a lucrative market. This program offers you (1) the most advanced knowledge and skills, (2) personal diversity coaching, and (3) extensive marketing support. Participants receive a certification diploma upon program completion.

Both programs get students involved in training and consulting as quick as possible. This way COB program trainees learn new knowledge and skills while practicing them under expert guidance. COB trainees also learn how to market themselves and get top dollar for their work.

All trainees receive the Daily Diversity Lessons, the DTUI Newsletter, and two ½ hour telephone sessions with a faculty person to discuss either specific or general diversity questions or challenges. Just think. Most on-line programs are very costly.

Consider a management degree from University of Phoenix. This will cost you $1025.00 per course. You need several courses, depending on the particular degree. You can easily spend $9-10 thousand dollars to get the degree. DTUI's is the only on-line diversity training program.

The only other way you can learn about diversity and inclusion is to either attend workshops at various conferences or to complete a program at one of a handful of institutes. Either way, the costs is considerable. You will likely have to travel by air, pay for hotel and meals, as well as the registration costs. All this and you will not be given opportunities to apply your skills in your real world situations under expert supervision. DTUI offers a cost-effective solution to becoming a diversity expert.

You can learn from your office, home, or while on the road. The web-based classroom and interactive format affords you ample opportunities to try out your skills in both the classroom and office, while receiving feedback from both the professor and fellow students.
You get all of this for:
$600.00 per course OR save big by paying a lump sum.
HRSC program cost is $1995.00
DTC program is $3995.00
COB program is $7995.00
You can even make payments over time.

HUMAN RELATIONS MASTERS DEGREE
Human Relations (HRS) is the study of relations among people get along better. Some relevant areas of study one woud apply this knowledge would  include:

  • conflict resolution,
  • diversity and inclusion,
  • race relations,
  • peace and unity,
  • organizational inclusion,
  • team building,
  • employee rights,
  • union negotiations,
  • leadership,
  • group dynamics, and
  • communications.

Human relations developed out of a concern for understanding the relationship between the U.S. economy and management practices. Today it focuses primarily on the relationship between human diversity and productivity from a management perspective. This is why the master's program is ideal for DTUI.

Effective human relations skills result in greater workplace productivity and greater satisfaction among employees according to Marie Dalton and colleagues who wrote a textbook on the subject. Human Relations(HRs) is an area of expertise that is well-established. Perhaps the oldest institution for HRs is the Institute for Human Relations at Yale University. It was established in the 1930s. The Tavistock Institute in England is another well-established center. Several state departments in U.S. states also have HRs center--California and Maryland to name a couple. Many communities have established HRs as well.

Diversity training is a specific type of human relations training. The challenge for the diversity specialist is to:

  • understand the gap between diversity-related beliefs and behaviors,
  • possess the tools needed to get the audience to expose it, and
  • want to do something about it.

Once they want to do something about it, the proper knowledge and skills are needed to work toward closing the gap. It is rare that a single magic solution exists that can make you an instant expert. It is a process....a lot of ideas, risk-taking, empathy for others, and commitment which combine to make the greatest impact on others.
